Geir Helgemo is one of the top players in the world. This week's deal shows why.

He is known to make right choices when the situation is there of a guess. In 1990 his team won the European Youth Championship. This week's deal is from that championship.

The bidding was routine with North's 2 D being fourth suit forcing.Geir sitting south received a lead of 3 of Ds.

He won the trick with King and immediately played H Jack!!

WQhen this held the trick he played a C to King and continued with C 10 which was covered by East. Geir allowed East to hold that trick who now shifted to Ds. East's D Jack took the trick and Geir won the D continuation with dummy's Ace and cashed H Ace. Now Geir took the marked finesse in C and cashed C Ace. By now West was down to D Q , S A K & Q 8 of Hs and did not have a effective discard on C Ace.

Geir end played West with S who had to concede H tricks in the end to Geir's K 9.

Very well played. Geir made right choice when he tackled the H suit. This won him best played deal award in 1990.
