Bridge Facilities in India
In this section I would be putting together all the information regarding bridge facilities in the various cities in
India. The information may be sketchy at present but would be made comprehensive in future.
Tournament News
In this section I would cover tournaments happening in India and more so the tournaments
happening in Northern part of India and in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
HINDALCO bridge tournament would take place at Renukoot from July 21-23, 2000.
Fifth Friday Championship organised by Herman De Wael would take place on June 30, 2000 at various clubs across the world.
WBF is organising Mind Sports Organization's Worldwide Simultaneous Pairs on August 22 and August 23, 2000. It would be on the lines of Fifth Friday Championship organised by Herman De Wael.
The magnitude of the championship would be higher with about 10000 tables results being compiled together.
Deal of the Week
In this section I would cover one good deal which appeared in the Weekly Bridge Tournaments at Lucknow or in a recent tournament with explanations.
This week's deal is from Worldwide Pairs Contest which took place on June 2, 2000.

Bidding
This week a deal on simple defence.
Not every EW would play this deal in 3 NT. South would open 1 in most
of the systems over which EW actions would differ. Majority of Wests would double and then introduce Diamond
suit. Some would jump to 3NT which would close the auction.
How would you fare in such 3 NT contract ?
As you can see a lead would give away an overtrick if suit is not
immediately shifted to. A red suit lead ensures nine tricks.
A lead is a scorcher.
As long as Ace is intact with North, NS can take
the contract two down on a lead. But a little care is needed. You as South should not play West for 3 s and should
return 9 and not a customary Jack as 10 would get promoted in dummy.
