Keep Foreigner Away, Vote the BJP & National Democratic Alliance Way

dear bridge friends I don't mix bridge with politics but the issue of foreigner being thrusted on India is too important to be not spoken about.

Issue 16,17,18 mentioned anywhere unexplained adjustment in Total Trick Count due to which Total Trick Count in any deal goes up by one.

That adjustment can be stated as "If you have a longer suit than the trump suit and that longer suit can be established then the total trick count goes up by one."

    To spot this look for:

    1. 4-4 fits in trump suit and when you have a five card or longer suit which can be established. So patterns like: 4531, 4522, 454-,4621,463-,472-, 4711, etc.
    2. With five card trump suit other suit should be at least of five card suit. So patterns like:5521, 553-, 5611, 562-, 571- etc.
    3. And even 67--

It is important that both suits should be in the same set of cards ie partner or dummy should not have the longer suit.In some cases even an establishable longer suit in dummy would also give an extra trick. However, in such cases either partner has to clearly communicate to you the longer suit for you to take a Total Trick decision or partner would have to take the Total Trick decision for you.

Let us look at the deal shown above from the total trick point of view.

In this deal 5 Spade or 5 Diamond by EW makes and 5 Clubs by NS is only 2 down.

There are 17 Total tricks if trumps are Spades but there are 20 tricks. One each trick is more due to double-double fit, 7 card Diamond suit & establishable Diamond suit (the adjustment mentined above). If trumps are diamond then there are 18 trumps and 20 total tricks. One each trick then is more due to double-double fit and seven card Diamond suit.

Now the question is do you need to make any complex calculations for taking any adjustment decisions on table ?

The answer is no. All you need to know is that due to adjustments total trick count goes up.

When this deal happened on the Table I was playing South and I didn't bid 5 Clubs inspite of following Total Tricks.

Actually when I listened to the bidding I was fairly certain that East has a establishable Diamond suit, so total Trick count is going to be high. My partner was showing at least 5-5 pattern in Hearts & Clubs.

I didn't comupte number of Total Tricks and chose to pass as I was fairly certain that 5 Diamonds or 5 Spades would make at least.Even 6 Diamonds or 6 Spades could have made.

Another factor which came into consideration was the vulnerability. At equal vulnerability I didn't compete at five level but I would have competed upto 6 Clubs if our opponents were vulnerable and we were non vulnerable.
