This week's deal is from New Zealand vs China match. Chinese defenders came up with good defence on this deal.

New Zealand West was playing the contract of 3 H and received a lead of D King. The lead was won with dummy's Ace and declarer played trump Ace and back to prevent D ruffs.Chinese North won the trick with H Queen and cashed D Queen before exiting with a C. South won the trick with King and returned a D which was ruffed by North with his master trump. North got out with a C which was ruffed by declarer in hand but now he was short of an entry to take S finesse twice (S Jack followed by finesse against 10) and finished down one.

"Look what happens if Chinese North cashes the H K and exits with a C. Declarer can ruff the second round of C and follow with the S J to the king, ace and 9. He can then exit with a D. If North still had the D Q, he would be endplayed, forced to play a S, giving declarer a free finesse, or a C, giving declarer an entry to hand with a ruff. If North simply cashed his two red winners, followed by a C,declarer would have a re-entry to hand with a D."
