52nd UP State Bridge Championship at Prayagraj 2024

52nd UP State Bridge Championship took place at KP Community Center, Prayagraj from August 9-11, 2024. 18 teams including 15 UP teams, 2 from Delhi & 1 from Dehradun took part in the Championship. The event was very well organised by Allahabad Bridge Association. The whole show was superbly managed by Sri Sushil Agarwal ably assisted by Sri Shankar Chatterjee. This is the 7th time Prayagraj is holding UP State Championship with first being in 1971 & last time being in 2010. Sri P Narasinga Rao was CTD ably assisted by Sri SP Sharma. Sri TC Pant looked after technical work very efficiently.

From 2012 the UP State Championship was made open to neighbouring states with a new trophy being instituted for best non UP team since 2018.

Lala Sriram Agarwal Trophy for Best UP Team, Madhava Prasad Trophy for Swiss League Winner and Dr JS Kothiwal Trophy for Best Non UP Team in Duplicate Event

18 teams took part in the event and played 7 rounds of swiss league of 8 boards after which 6 teams qualified for Super League. Sushil's IV - 101.04 topped the swiss league followed by Delhi Blues - 86.49, Dehradun - 85.67 finished third, Kashvi - 83.76 were fourth, Kosmos - 81.42 were fifth and Pals, Lucknow - 81.31 were last team to qualify. After 5 rounds of super league of 10 boards each the final results are:

3. Kosmos, Delhi (TC Pant, Rajesh Kumar Jain, GP Aggarwal, SM Moin) - 54.19
4. Sushil's IV (Sushil Agarwal, BN Rastogi, AK Sinha, Siddharth Behura) - 52.62 Swiss League Toppers & Winners of Madhava Prasad Trophy
5. Kashvi (Kr Vijayanand Singh, Pradeep Singh, Girish Kumar, Sunil Kumar Sinha) - 44.74
6. Delhi Blues (Dr Nikita Kamal, Amarjit, DK Tewari, PC Gupta, Dr Tushar Moghe, Dr Vijay Gupta) - 34.22



This is 13th time teams from Lucknow have become State Champions. The other winners are Prayagraj 26, Moradabad 4, Varanasi 3, Kanpur 2, Nainital (undivided UP) 1, Singrauli 1, Aligarh 1, Johri, Baghpat - 1. Ever since state championship was made open to neighbouring states thrice teams from outside UP have come first.

VC Agarwal Trophy for Duplicate Silver Event

There was a Silver event for non qualifiers of Duplicate event. 12 teams took part in the event. They played swiss league of 5 rounds of 10 boards each. The results are as follows:

IK Agarwal Trophy for Best UP Pair in IMP Pairs Event

39 pairs took part in the event. The event was played over two sessions on final day of 20 boards each with Scrambelled Mitchell movement. From 2018 the event is played as IMP pair event instead of Matchpoints. The results are as follows:
